Supporting Volunteers and the Voluntary and Community Sector

Voluntary and Community Action Sunderland is the main umbrella organisation in city for Volunteers and the Voluntary and Community Sector.

The work of the CVS can be divided into five key functions:

Services and support
We provide local voluntary and community organisations with a range of services, including information and advice, guidance through regular weekly newsletters, websites and social media, training provision, funding advice, guidance, events, workshops and surgeries, one to one support and access to practical resources such as photocopying, advertising, the offer of administrative support and acting as an intermediary.

Liaison and networking
We act as a focal point for the local voluntary and community sector, encouraging networking between organisations, partnerhsip and collaboration, and engagement with other sectors. We promote learning between organisations and also help different communities to organise their own networking activities.

Representation and Development We promote and enable the views of local voluntary and community organisations to be heard by policy makers, funders and service providers. We identify new social and community needs via gaps in provision, initiating new groups and/or providing support and facilities to strengthen existing groups by advising on a range of management, governance and fundraising issues.

Strategic partnership working
We empower local voluntary and community organisations to actively participate in local or regional partnerships. We represent the local voluntary and community sector’s interests by taking a lead role in partnerships with the public and private sector in Sunderland and beyond.

Volunteering
